This is the final Caturday of the year of the rat as we prepare to welcome the year of the ox on Monday. It hasn’t been a good year for China with riots in T*bet, earthquakes (yes, plural) in Sichuan and the milk contamination scandal discovered in September. Let’s hope the year of the ox treats us better.
The temperature is hovering at around minus 2 degrees (28 Fahrenheit) but with the strong wind chill it feels closer to minus 10 degrees. In fact I almost died last night trying to walk from Xintiandi to Windows Scoreboard with Dingle and Swiss James, who ignored my protests and stubbornly refused to take a taxi – my ears, my ears!
To help me get through the rest of the winter, I am taking a winter sun break and heading south for a few days of sun and sand. As my house keeper has gone back to her home town for new year, for the first time in almost 4 years, Tommy will be leaving the apartment and staying with a friend. I really hope he’ll be okay adjusting to a new place and hope he doesn’t think I’ve given him away. I’ll be back in a week Tommy!
Happy holidays. See you all in the “niu” (Ox) year!

will Tommy be taking his giant play nest with him? I think he needs it!!! Where are you headed Woai? I am going to HK will you be around?

Wisaman – Sadly no, the play nest stays as it’s too big to get in to a taxi. I’m heading to an undisclosed secret location, sorry I can’t be more specific but I don’t want too many crazed fans showing up on the beach looking for a piece of WoAi’s good lovin’. And much further south than HK which is hardly what I call warm at the moment!

Funny there was never a cat that quite made it to the Zodiac animal circle.
Do they sell Niu outfits for cats to wear? That would be interesting!
January 24th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
Miss Jane – It’s because the rat sabotaged the cat’s chances of winning the race and that’s why they’ve been enemies ever since (the rat won the race and that’s why it’s the first animal in the Chinese zodiac followed by the ox.
No Niu outfits and if they did, Tommy wouldn’t be interested in wearing them!

Did I remember correctly or did you really refer to Tommy as “it” the other night in the pub?
January 25th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Dingle – No I think you were mistaken it was very loud in the pub that night. Tommy if you’re reading this – and I know you do like to read the Caturday posts – I would never refer to you as “it”.

SHE in China – Yes indeed it turned out to be the best decision I’ve made so far this year! Truly wonderful!
