WoAi wearing the 2009 England football jersey
Those of you who pay attention to my blog will remember on my recent trip to Hongkong I was disappointed that I wasn’t able to find the new England football jersey that was just launched earlier this year. My brother was clearly paying attention because yesterday a package arrived from England and inside was a brand new England jersey. At this point I have to explain to American readers that this is the new jersey that the English soccer team will be wearing and not the New England Patriots American football team jersey!
I liked the jersey as soon as I read about it a few months ago but I have to say, now I have one, I like it even more. It’s definitely in my top 5 England jerseys (they change the design once every 2 years so there have been lots over the years).

WoAi with the older, less well fitting England jersey (medium size)
What do I like about it? Well firstly I like its simplicity. Less is more. I also like how it looks more like a regular polo jersey than a football shirt which means it looks good as an everyday item of clothing and not just something to wear when England are playing a match. And lastly, for the first time, Umbro have offered these shirts in specific chest sizes rather than just small / medium / large which means you can get a much better fit.
Thanks Rich for the second best 2009 birthday gift (the best was mum’s gift – she gave me 100 pounds in cash!).

With a great fit like that, you could probably get a game with the team! Would change the jeans to footy shorts though.
Not being able to see the England shirt makes me sad :’( #flickrblockkkkk
Maxie – Thanks you’re very kind. My brother’s budget couldn’t stretch to the shorts sadly so I just have the top.
Oli – Problem fixed. Sorry about that.
He really does like the thumbs tucked in the pockets pose.
T – It’s because I don’t actually have any thumbs. And it’s my trademark, nobody else can use it.
Errr, third surely
Swiss – Ah yes, sorry your gift was the best but I can’t say that in front of my own flesh and blood can I?
Wow that is what I call super-retro. Did the Umbro sign get fatter or did y…nothin!
Oi cheeky, yes, the logo got fatter, not the “model”.
Am liking the retro look, but have to say, for those of us with more muscular bodies I prefer the older, slightly tighter fitting shirt!
WoAi… can’t help but notice you appear to be in some sort of photographic studio… what’s that all about?
Wiseman – Yes well we can’t all have six packs like you can we!
ChrisB – It’s actually the wall of my apartment not a studio, but it was taken with my professional studio flash heads attached to a huge softbox. I usually take photos of other people but occasionally I turn the camera on myself.
You can see all my photography related posts here.
Looking good bruv, glad it fits! Lucky for me Woai didn’t have any problems finding all the expensive items on his shopping list during his trip to HK
Rich – Well now you mention it, there was also a Playstation 3 that I had trouble finding and some blue ray DVDs to play on it.
Unfortunately the plug on the uk console wont fit the socket in your new apartment. Nevermind

you can buy these in the “soccer shop” at Hongkou football stadium. Look good. Think I will pick one up!
Wooohooo! What a generous 100 pound gift for your birthday! You almost have to rub her feet now, ha ha!
