Happy International Men’s Day

Another example of how the whole gender equality thing is bullshit. On International Women’s Day in China, women get to down tools and walk out of the office after lunch time – it’s a mandatory half day off for women. Today is International Men’s Day and nobody gives a damn. In fact, I’m betting most people around the world don’t even know that International Men’s Day exists. Mao Tse Tung once famously said that women hold up half the sky, but who holds up the other half?

    Here’s a joke for international men’s day:

    Q. Why do women wear make-up and perfume?
    A. Cos they’re ugly and they smell

  2. WoAi says:

    @Swiss James – You see on any other day that would be unacceptable but today, I have to say good effort!

  3. Anthony says:

    @Woai – walk around with a loudspeaker and say ‘I am a man and proud!’ – lol

  4. Bittermelon says:

    women get to down tools

    Maybe we speak different languages although both are called “English”, but what does that mean?

    In terms of men’s day, no one cares because men already get to “down tools” and walk out of the office after lunch every other day of the year.

  5. WoAi says:

    @Anthony – I don’t know if I am proud to be a man, but I’m certainly happy to be one!

    @Bittermelon – Spoken like a true woman!

    English is a difficult language to pick up because of the frequent use of idioms (Chinese too in fact). Down tools means to stop working. So in today’s modern working environment it’s more likely to mean switching off their laptops and walking out rather than laying down their spanners (wrench) and screwdrivers.
