Questlove and James Bond In Shanghai

Just a couple of quick announcements. The 23rd Bond film Skyfall, is FINALLY released today in China (about half a year after the rest of the world has seen it) minus a few sensitive bits that have been cut by the Chinese censor. I won’t say which bits in case some of you haven’t yet seen the movie, although I’m not sure it counts as a spoiler if I reveal something that won’t be in the movie! I was lucky enough to catch it in Bangkok last month, fully intact!

Okay actually, ** SPOILER ALERT ** it’s the scene where an assassin enters an office building to well, assassinate someone, and when he enters he shoots the security guard instantly. I don’t see why this would be offensive to the Chinese censors – unless it shows Chinese security guards in a bad light!

And if you’re a fan of hip hop, Philadelphia hip hop band The Roots’ front man Questlove will be appearing at Unico this Wednesday night. Tickets are 60 RMB in advance or 100 RMB at the door. Sadly, I won’t be in Shanghai on Wednesday so if you go, let me know how it went.

I’m not in Shanghai either, but I’d have love to have gone to the ?uestlove show. I would point out to the makers of the poster that its not his first time in China though – the Roots played two shows in 2007 or 2008 (I forget which) in Shanghai and Beijing.

@T – Yes, some of my friends actually went to the concert a few years back.

  3. T. says:

I did too. The Roots were awesome. The sound was terrible.
