She Drinks Hard For The Money

As we approach the Chinese / lunar new year, I was amused by this story of a boss making his staff drink for their year end bonuses. The more they were able to drink, the bigger their bonus.

Men were given 500 yuan ($82.65) for a shot of liquor, 200 yuan for a glass of red wine and 100 yuan for a beer. Women were given twice as much money for consuming the same amounts

Luckily for me, my company allocated bonuses the old fashioned way based on, you know, performance at work.

The top-performing employees should have worked out a strategy to drink the boss under the table, then pocket the whole wad of cash!

Ahhh – the old balance of greed and alcohol poisoning.

I can’t think of a single reason why this psychopath boss thought that this was a suitable and effective way of ensuring high staff morale and fairness across the board. You have to wonder how these people ever make money in business as they are clearly incompetent in the area of man-management.

@Byron – Yes, indeed, an interesting dilemma : do I drink to the point of near death and make shitloads of money or just be poor this new year!

@Stimpy – I can think of a reason : he’s a bloody moron. Sadly there are lots of people in top management positions who have no clue and I think in China it’s even worse. So for example, sexually harassing female staff is far more common here, almost “normal” in many organisations in the same way corruption is still generally accepted as how things are done.
