My ex-boss – who might be reading this, so I should quickly add, is also a very good friend – is in town for a few days, all the way from Canada, exploring some business opportunities with her business partner. It’s all very top secret, so I have no idea what the project is about, but I think they’re trying to set up a chain of Calgary-style Chinese restaurants in Shanghai.

It’s late afternoon on Friday, 8th August 2008. The summer Olympics’ opening ceremony is just a few hours away. This brand new sports bar is due to open just in time for the start of the 16 day event, and workmen are busy putting the last minute finishing touches to the exterior. Er, guys …….
